Playing a bit of catch up here, but I found the reaction to Sheffield United’s draw with Sheffield Wednesday last weekend pretty interesting.
Hosting the near neighbours at Bramall Lane for the tie, bragging rights were shared when it came to the final result – scoreless – but let’s face it. There was only going to be one winner, sadly we couldn’t find the winner.
75% possession, 19 chances overall and five on target compared to their one, but we paid for David McGoldrick’s penalty miss more than many imagined at the point.
Manager Chris Wilder was quoted immediately after the game as saying to the BBC.
“I thought we were outstanding. We had a plan, we stuck to that plan and we totally dominated a team that is full of big names. I’m not walking away tonight feeling any disappointment about how my team has played and I would rather be in our changing room with the way that we played, the plan we’ve got and the way we moved the ball around the pitch than the opposition. I thought their goalkeeper was outstanding all night and their best player by a country mile.”
There are plenty of Blades fans who will have banged that exact drum following the fulltime whistle, but there were plenty of others who rued not taking the points to return to the top of the Championship table.
The Wednesday players go to their fans to celebrate a 0-0 ????????????????????????

Can’t fault that performance, play football the right way, gave it everything, if mcgoldrick scores the pen it’s a one sided win, on to the next ????

Proud of the team, played really well again and dominated the game – should have won but a great performance ⚔️

Frustrating but when you put 10 men behind the ball thats what happens

How many times did someone get the ball out and wide and refuse to put in a cross? Totally dominated the game and Wednesday keeper barely made a save

A shocking result against a really poor side. No delivery into the box. Never gonna score.
