Memories of Ashton Gate

My only trip to Bristol City was on the 5th December 1998 for a dire 2-0 defeat under Steve Bruce.

I have to be honest and say that my memories of the game are very sketchy to say the least. I can remember Nick Henry getting sent off for a bad foul on the Bristol City ‘keeper and being pleased to at least have seen a little bit of passion. I couldn’t have told you that der, der, der, der Akinbiyi scored City’s second without the help of soccerbase. It can’t have been as memorable a strike as his pig destroying blockbuster at Hillsborough.

I wouldn’t class myself as tight but I can remember being gutted when my half of the petrol money came to £18! How can I remember that but not the game itself? Probably tells a story about the Bruce years as much as anything. My only other clear memory of the day is having to drink in a bowling alley before the game as we couldn’t find a pub.

From what I’ve read, the Blades have had some far more eventful days, both on and off the pitch, at Ashton Gate than the one I had. Do any of you have any stories to share? Bristol City fans more than welcome.
