Blades legend David McGoldrick wasn’t retained by the club upon his contract expiring this summer. According to Alan Nixon, the 34 year-old could be signing for Derby County.

The former Irish international joined United in July of 2018 after a successful trial. That same season, McGoldrick helped fire the club to the Premier League scoring 15 goals in the league campaign.

In United’s first season back in the Premier League, McGoldrick was a consistent outstanding performer during a season where United pushed towards the European places, finishing 9th place.

The following season, McGoldrick was the bright spark in a very poor season for United as they finished bottom of the league. The veteran striker was the clubs top goalscorer in the 20/21 season with 8 goals in the Premier League.

Last season saw an unfortunate end to the Irishman’s career at Bramall Lane. McGoldrick played 19 times across the Championship, his time on the pitch was limited as McGoldrick suffered a season ending injury a couple of months into 2022.

United fans will be wishing David McGoldrick all the best for the rest of his career, and they’ll continue to monitor his situation during his hunt for a new club, in which could end up being recently relegated Derby County.
