Motherwell manager Stuart McCall continues to distance himself from the vacant manager`s job at Sheffield United, where he previously spent five years as a player and a coach.

He made 90 appearances during three seasons in the side in the twilight of his career and he helped the side reach the play-off final as well as the semi-finals of both the FA and League Cup.

He led the reserve team to the league title during his time at Bramall Lane and he was assistant to manager Neil Warnock as the side won promotion to the Premier League in 2006.

McCall says he has had no approach from the blades about the job. ‘I genuinely don’t know anything about it other than there has been speculation.

‘You can’t stop speculation. I’ve never once looked to go elsewhere, whether as a player, coach, manager.

‘If, for example, Sheffield United wanted to speak to me, the club and the board have always been open with me as I have been with them.

‘If somebody wants to speak to you, depending on who it is, you would maybe say, ‘Okay we will speak’. But it’s not definite that I will be speaking to anyone.’

United are already in the process of interviewing for the vacant position and they may wait until the end of the season in Scotland this weekend before making an approach. McCall says he is more than happy at Motherwell and is in no rush to leave Fir Park. “There’s not a part of me desperate to go. I’m not seeking out avenues to get away.

‘If this is all speculation and nothing happens, then that’s fine. I’ve not got a deep desire to leave this club because I’m having a great time here.’

McCall recently signed a new two-year deal at Motherwell and they need just one point from their last two games to guarantee a second placed finish.

Since leaving United in the summer of 2007 following their relegation from the Premier League he has had spells with Bradford City and Motherwell as manager.

He joined Bradford City before the start of the next season and he spent just over three years with the League Two side before he was dismissed in February after a poor start to the season in 2009/10.

McCall took over at Motherwell at the start of 2011 and he led them to the semi-finals of both the FA and League Cup. After losing in the semi-final of the League Cup, he went one better in the FA Cup before losing the final 3-0 to Celtic.

Motherwell finished the season in sixth place, the same as when he had taken over.

In his first full season at Motherwell, he led them to a third placed finish. This season they played in both the Champions League and Europa League qualifiers, losing out to Panathinaikos and Levante in their first qualifying rounds.

Motherwell are going to finish second to Celtic in the Scottish Premier League this season and he was recently named manager of the year in Scotland.
