Sheffield United gave the fans plenty of Christmas cheer on Boxing Day as we took a deserved victory over fellow promotion hopefuls Derby County.

Welcoming Frank Lampard’s side to Bramall Lane for the game, Billy Sharp initially gave us the advantage at the close of the first half but the visitors did level shortly after the restart. Additional efforts from David McGoldrick and Leon Clarke returned all three points in a 3-1 win to move us up to fourth place in the Championship table and keep our promotion hopes more than alive.

With a very strong second half and chances to have grown the scoreline, statistics website Whoscored were complimentary in their player ratings, but John Egan did walk away with their star man rating, scoring 8.07.

Completing the top five best performers on the day were John Fleck (7.96), McGoldrick (7.88), George Baldock (7.74) and Enda Stevens (7.69).

Sharp, Jack O’Connell and Clarke also all received seven-plus scores for their efforts on the day.

Onto Blackburn now.
