Sheffield United claimed their first away 3pts of the season, and a clean sheet to go with it after beating Yorkshire rivals Hull City 2-0.

Paul Heckingbottom named an unchanged starting XI for the clash on Humberside, with the only change coming amongst the substitutes as Gordan replaced Jebbison who missed out through illness.

Unsurprisingly, it was United who were quickly out of the blocks, Berge dragged an effort wide after Hull surrendered possession in their own half, before Doyle tested Ingram from distance following some excellent build-up play down the right side. On 20 minutes, the Blades deservedly took the lead as McBurnie caught Ingram out at his near post with a shot that may have taken a deflection from just outside the penalty area.

United could have doubled their lead four minutes later as Berge rounded Ingram having latched on to Doyle’s through ball intended for McBurnie, but Hull scrambled back and cleared. But it was Foderingham at the other end, who made the next telling contribution for the Blades, denying Estupinan twice after he broke away 1v1 against the United stopper.

Unfortunately, Lowe appeared to pull up with a hamstring issue as he chased back and was subsequently replaced by Basham. And right on the stroke of halftime, City wasted another clear cut chance. Estupinan split the Blades backline with a pass and with Foderingham off his line Tufan opted to try and dink it over him, thankfully it landed on the roof of the net.

The Blades started the second half as they did the first, on the front foot and having got the better of Figueredo, Ndiaye will have been disappointed not to have doubled United’s advantage. Ahmedhodžić was then cautioned by referee Donohue for a high challenge on Figueredo as he looked to flick on Doyle’s cross.

After Longman had fired over on the angle and Brewster had replaced the hardworking McBurnie, United made sure of the points as Berge drove into the area and made it 2-0 after Ndiaye went on another dazzling run and slipped it through to the Norwegian.
