Managers’ Views

Perhaps unsurprisingly, each manager had different views on their teams fortunes on Saturday. Redknapp believed that Portsmouth were deserving of at least a point, while Warnock believed his side dropped two.

Redknapp said: ‘It was a fortunate goal but I felt a goal was going to come. We started poorly today, but we got on top and dominated in the second half.

‘It’s a tough place to come and pick up points, they’re not an easy team to beat, that’s for sure, and I think they’ll get out of trouble the way they work for each other, so it’s a good point for us.’

Warnock said: ‘It feels like we’ve lost the game, conceding a late goal like that. I don’t think we deserved to lose the points, although Portsmouth did well in the second half.

Warnock went on to discuss the poor defending that led to Portsmouth’s equaliser, laying the blame on Davis’s shoulders rather than the disappointing Gerrard.

‘One mistake has cost us today. Claude doesn’t need to apologise- his heads between his ankles at the minute.’

However, Warnock was far happier with the performance of new signing Stead, adding ‘I thought Stead was excellent. Jon adds another dimension to us, and you could see the crowds reaction to him when he came off.’

‘Portsmouth have a hell of a good side. It’s another point and we’re still in there.’
