Neil Warnock felt that yesterday’s win proved the Blades are still capable of escaping the drop, while Curbishly says his side will keep fighting.

Warnock said:

‘We knew it was an important game. I don’t think there was anything significant in the result other than we showed we are still very much in it after people had written us off over the last few weeks.

‘I think the media have presumed both West Ham and Charlton would finish above us. But we have brought other teams into it now, which we wanted to do, and I don’t think anybody can say who is safe and who is not.’

On the subject of the goals in Saturday’s game, Warnock added,

‘There were some great goals- It was like old fashioned stuff. In training, Jon (Stead) scores goals like that every day.

‘We have given ourselves a fighting chance. We won as a team and we thoroughly deserved it. I thought we looked a Premiership side out there today.’

Curbishly said:

‘What Sheffield United have done today is a massive thing for them- and it would have been for us as well.

‘The vital games we have had since I came to the club we have lost such as against Charlton, Watford and here, while we also dropped points to Fulham.

‘Sheffield United have clawed away from us now, but there’s still a long way to go, and I don’t think they will think they are safe.’
