Neil Warnock decided to focus on the quality of the Blades opponents rather than his negative away tactics, while O’Neill felt some of Villa’s football was from a different planet!

Warnock said:

‘We were poor, but we were beaten by a super team – they were exceptional and we just couldn’t cope with them.

‘We were beaten by a better side, I thought we did well to keep it to three- it could have been more.

‘We’ve a home game to come and it’s still in our hands and that’s the way we want it to be.

‘The players’ heads are down at the moment, but I’ve been so proud of them this season – they’ve worked so hard.’

O’Neill said:

‘We were deserved winners. It was great to play well and win at home as we haven’t done that enough this season.

‘I don’t know what Neil Warnock has said, but Stuart McCall was gracious about our performance. Some of the football was out of this world.

‘It would be nice to believe that it is a glimpse into the future. The three goals were terrific.

‘This is a day for celebration, but we’ve got miles to go.’
