Warnock praised the part played by the fans this season, while Boothroyd thought his players showed a ‘great attitude’.

Warnock said:

‘We celebrate wildly after every game that we win because it’s hard to win in the Premiership.

‘We fought very hard and there were a lot of plusses. There was great determination from my players, they put their bodies on the line and make many blocks.

‘The fans have been absolutely magnificent- just look at our home record. They have not turned on us once this season.’

The Blades boss felt the central defensive partnership between Morgan and Kilgallon also deserved praise yesterday, adding,

‘I thought Kilgallon and Morgan were outstanding at the back. If you look at Watford’s record- they haven’t been beaten by a bottom six team away from home all season.’

Boothroyd said:

‘We knew it was going to be difficult because United are fighting for their lives, but we stood up and had a right go at it.

‘They were nervous and we should have taken advantage of that. But they did not have to work hard for their goal.

‘Experience was the difference- they managed the game better than we did, they perhaps have a bit better depth than we have…

‘…but we aim to finish the season strongly as we are starting to plan for next season.’
