Gary Speed believes the addition of Andy Reid has been key in helping the Blades score more goals.

Reid, a creative midfielder has proved the difference in recent weeks, as United look to turn around their poor goalscoring record this season.

United boss Speed, thinks that bringing in Reid on loan has helped the club in their fight for consolidating a respectable position in the league, but didn’t forget to mention the players already at the Lane, doing their bit for the side.

‘It is obvious that we have not scored freely enough and, although that hasn’t been down to lack of effort, it means that we must create more chances to enable us to score more.

‘We have now got players who can get on the ball and show quality like Reid, Britton and Yeates, so it is really a question of getting the right ball into the danger areas with attackers arriving at the right time.

‘The positions that most goals are scored from are front post, back post and central areas in the penalty-area, and we do a lot of work in training designed to get players in there before defenders, in front of them to meet the delivery.’

As well as creating these chances, Speed commented on the significance of taking them, highlighting Ched Evans’ goal at the weekend.

‘There is no doubt that he is talented and he hasn’t had an easy time here when so much was expected of him whilst he was adapting to the Club.

‘But he is at the stage now when he has to realise that potential and maybe that goal will set him off. I could have substituted him instead of Cresswell last Saturday but I though Ched was looking lively.

‘I believe that he can be Premier League class if he works hard on his game every day.’
