Line Drawn Under Tevez Saga

In the seven-years since the Carlos Tevez transfer saga no love has been lost between Sheffield United and West Ham United has it?

Nigel Clough though hopes that Tuesday night, as we advanced into the third round of the league cup, has ‘drawn a line’ under the whole affair.

He feels it is time to move on….

Clough insists that his focus was only ever on us winning so the fans could go home happy, he wasn’t looking for ‘revenge’ at all. A degree of injustice is something that he knows will always remain but feels now is the time for this to be moved on from with this closing that book.

After the penalty shootout win he said: ‘It was a long time ago.

‘I think it was more about winning on the night for our supporters than anything in the past. I’m sure there will still be a bit of injustice felt by our supporters and that will not go away.

‘You can’t keep going on with things like that. You move on – it was seven years ago and we all move on – we are desperate to get out of League One.’

Diafra Sakho’s goal looked as though it would put West Ham through but a Winston Reid own goal drew us level with a penalty shootout required to decide the outcome, which we won 5-4

Mark Howard, who drew much praise from his boss, made the decisive penalty safe at Upton Park when he kept out Columbian international striker Enner Valencia’s spot kick, we can now look forward to this evenings third round draw.
