Left-sided injured players close to being back

The Blades head into the two-week international period in fine form after securing a 2-0 victory at Deepdale last Saturday.

This victory extended United’s unbeaten run to 9 games, 7 of those games have been wins for United, including the current run of 4 consecutive victories.

Amazingly, United have been able to do this with the number of injuries that they have picked up since the start of the season.

Club legend, and captain, Billy Sharp has only recently just regained full fitness after his ankle injury. Sharp was named on the bench against Preston North End last Saturday, and he saw action in the final minutes of the game.

But there are still many other injured players, more so down the left-hand side of the pitch. The likes of Enda Stevens, Jack Robinson, Ciaran Clark and Ben Osborn are all in their recovery process.

With this two-week gap, this will benefit those players because they won’t be missing any more game time.

Sheffield United assistant manager Stuart McCall explained the current injury situation:

“Unfortunately there are a few at that four-to-five week mark. If they recuperate well, which they are doing now, I would imagine we would have Ciaran, Enda, Ossie and Robbo all probably available at a similar time.

“Lowey had a sticky start earlier in the season and then he was flying. Rhys was playing terrifically well at left centre back and Lowey goes out so Rhys moves up one.

“That is an area of the park we cannot afford any more injuries at the moment, especially with the lads that are coming back still maybe four weeks away.” [Yorkshire Live]

In recent games, we have seen youngster Andre Brooks on the bench, my guess is that he is the left-wingback substitute option. Although it’s not his natural position, his skill set would be a good fit for the left-wingback position.

Jayden Bogle could return to the matchday squad after the international break. The right-wingback may see minutes on the opposite side at the left-wingback spot, if push comes to shove.
