Sheffield United’s promotion hopes from the Championship in the season of 2018/19 continued last Saturday as we took victory over managerless Reading.

Heading to the Madejski Stadium for the tie, the hosts certainly made life difficult for us even if they didn’t test goalkeeper Dean Henderson between the sticks. Our chance creation on the day came to the fore in the final ten minutes of the game as Billy Sharp opened the scoring in the 83rd minute and three minutes later an own goal gave us a fulltime score of 2-0.

It was lively though, the hosts had a penalty appeal waved away and we had two (correctly) disallowed goals for offside as well.

A rounded performance from John Egan saw statistics website Whoscored give him their star man rating of 8.08 for his performance.

The strong showing we put in continued to be reflected in their player ratings as Oliver Norwood took second spot (7.92), Jack O’Connell third with (7.89) and the top five was completed by Chris Basham (7.65) and John Fleck (7.51).

The seven-plus ratings continued with Enda Stevens and Sharp with a respective 7.40 and 7.16.

By comparison, the hosts didn’t have a single player rate above seven.

Onto the next one.
