Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell insists an offer has been made to the defender, who has recently been linked with a move away from Bramall Lane.

‘We have made a signficant offer to Matt, but it doesn’t appear to have been acceptable to either him or his agent.’

The 25 year old, signed from Leeds United in 2007 has made it clear recently that the next four years are the most crucial of his career, which is why a decision was not rushed sooner.

As well as a move to the Premiership with Wigan Athletic, Kilgallon has also been linked with Middlesborough and Celtic recently, but for now it’s the Blades where his attention should be, and bouncing back from Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Scunthorpe United.

The defeat saw a spat between Kilgallon and the Blades coaching staff following the game, but one that Kevin Blackwell has confirmed will not affect the team spirit at Bramall Lane, putting it down to the circumstances on the pitch, during the game he was substituted in.

‘That’s life, isn’t it? I don’t expect players to come out here and be delighted at having come off. Otherwise they don’t have much chance in football.’

When Kilgallon questioned the substitution, Blackwell’s supposed response was:

‘Did you see the last two goals?’

Where Kilgallon’s future lies is unknown, but the immediate focus must turn to the fixture at fortress Bloomfield Road on Tuesday, where hosts Blackpool are yet to lose a game this season.
