Reda Khadra was handed his second Sheffield United start at Bramall Lane in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Birmingham City. The young German was asked to play in an unusual position and he didn’t really get into the game.

The 21-year-old made his second start at Bramall Lane in less than a week, as he played for Germany u21’s against England u21’s earlier this week.

Having not had many starting opportunities through the early stages of the season, Sheffield United manager, Paul Heckingbottom, chose to start the explosive attacker at left-wingback.

In his post-match reaction, Khadra was asked to make comments about Heckingbottom starting him at left-wingback:

“It’s football and you need to be ready for everything. If the gaffer wants me to play there then I’m playing there and I try to do my best in this position.” [SUTV]

United were disappointed with their performance, and even more so with the way they conceded the equaliser. After working hard to get the go-ahead goal, just 6 minutes later United were pegged back by the veteran striker Troy Deeney.

Khadra told SUTV:

“I think we could’ve done better in so many situations but it was a tough game. We knew it was going to be tough with [them] sitting so deep, it’s always hard to play a team like this, but I think we could’ve done much better.”

The Brighton loanee believes that’s the type of home opposition United will have to contend with for the rest of the season, with the away team looking to frustrate the Blades, sit back and try to kill the game with time-wasting antics.
