Jonathan Fortune has expressed his relief at finally being handed his Sheffield United debut.

The defender, signed on a free transfer last month after a lengthy trial has struggled to overcome an achilles problem recently, but recent injuries forcing Kilgallon out wide, and Chris Morgan’s suspension meant that the ex Charlton man was thrown into the action.

‘I am really pleased to get my debut out of the way. I have had to wait a while and it is a great feeling to be finally fit and ready.

‘When I signed I knew the strength we already had in that position and they (Morgan and Kilgallon) are two of the best defenders in the league.

‘I just want to play games and it is a bit of dream to have had the chance to get back out there and play again.’

‘The lads are proud of each other given all the problems. Andrew Davies put a tremendous effort in to battle on through the second-half when he should have come off, alongside me and Del who have just recovered from long-term injuries.

‘We expected to be under some heavy pressure away from home and ‘Benno’ deserves a lot of credit for keeping us in it in the first-half.

‘We aren’t totally satisfied with a point, but we will take what we can right now. The performance shows the kind of calibre we have because we are missing some big players and still managed to pick up something which is a positive sign.’

With Andrew Davies struggling, and Matthew Kilgallon looking at a spell on the sidelines, Fortune could have a more significant role to play in the coming weeks.
