The Blades’ bid to sign Cardiff City’s top scorer Cameron Jerome is looking increasingly unlikely after Sam Hammam had his say.

The Blades went back to Ninian Park official with an improved offer of £2million this week but City’s controversial chairman Sam Hammam has stepped in mouthing off, calling United a ‘little club’ along the way.

The Lebanese businessman said: ‘We are not under pressure to sell now. But you don’t know how things will go. Sheffield United are doing well and I like their manager. They are a nice, little club – but that’s all they are. They don’t have the stature to do sign a player of Jerome’s calibre.’

He continued: ‘He won’t go to one of the lesser sides in the Premier League or one of the ambitious clubs in the Championship because we won’t allow it. But I would have a dilemma if a club like Tottenham, Newcastle, Aston Villa or Middlesbrough came in for him.’

Meanwhile, United are expected to announce the signing of Blackburn midielder Garry Flitcroft later today.
