Sheffield United caretaker boss John Carver insists that the search for players is still on, despite no permanent man in charge.

Carver, who has been handed the reigns insists the Blades are doing all they can to improve the current playing squad at Bramall Lane, and when a new man does take the helm, they will be in a good position.

‘I will carry on planning as normal because there is no good in shutting down and wondering whether I will or won’t get the job.

‘The process of identifying players is always a continuing one and I was part of that with Gary Speed and Sam Ellis so there is no reason for that to stop.

‘The people upstairs at Bramall Lane will get on with the job of negotiating any deals, whilst we on the football staff plan – for whoever is in charge.

‘If a new man comes in and has different targets then we will still have done our best for this football club. When and if the issue comes up we will deal with it.’

United do have former St Pat’s midfielder David McAllister already set to join in January, but Carver is looking to boost those numbers further.
