We’re on our way, but there’s still a long way to go just yet.

That apparently is where Sheffield United stand when it comes to our pursuit of Rhian Brewster. There have been some reports that we have agreed to a £25m deal for him, but as yet there hasn’t been any major breakthrough.

Not that there hasn’t been any breakthrough at all though as Chris Wilder explained.

Speaking ahead of Monday night’s game with Aston Villa (via @The_Bladesman), Wilder gave an update on the latest regarding our pursuit of the Liverpool forward, and he wasn’t in a mood to mince words or try to throw up any sort of smokescreen about what was going on:

“I’m not going to mug everyone off by saying there hasn’t been an enquiry. I’ve spoken to the manager, the club’s spoken to Liverpool. I’ve left that to the CEO. I’ll get my answers from him for Rhian and other targets.”

So I don’t think you can really get more ‘straight from the horse’s mouth’ than this can you?

It sounds as if there is some form of progress on that front, but it doesn’t sound as if we’re ‘deep’ in negotiations for him or at the contract stage for instance, so we’re going to have to play the waiting game to see if anything becomes of it.

I just hope that this deal is brought to an end one way or another, we don’t want to spend all of our time chasing after this one player only for something to go wrong late on (say a failed medical), and we’re left scrambling over what to do in terms of a replacement player.

And having said before how big a fan I am of him, I hope that doesn’t turn out to be the case.
