With Sheffield United flying high in the second tier table, manager Chris Wilder would’ve been looking to start 2019 off in good fashion as we made the trip to Wigan Athletic and the DW Stadium earlier today.

It was a fairly balanced opening 45 minutes on the day but David McGoldrick did give us the advantage five minutes before the half-time break as we looked for another three points in the Championship

In the second half we made the game far more comfortable as we started brightly and Mark Duffy doubled our advantage three minutes after the break. Billy Sharp made it three as he became the leading goalscorer in the English football league this century as he took his tally to 220.

The points at 3-0 weren’t ever really in doubt and that’s how the game ended.

Speaking to the BBC at the end of the game, Sharp was obviously taking the headlines after that one.

“I’m glad the goal came today because I didn’t want it to keep going on. I just want to keep scoring goals now and hopefully help the club get promoted. It didn’t go quite to plan when I was here earlier in my career but I am enjoying every minute of it at the moment; I feel as fit and as strong as I have done. I’ve always wanted to be a Premier League player and I’ve had a couple of appearances there. It would be a dream to get promoted there with Sheffield United.”
