The acquisition of Tommy Doyle earlier this summer, from Premier League champions Manchester City, was quite exciting. Unfortunately that excitement didn’t last too long as the young promising midfielder suffered a thigh injury during United’s pre-season tour in Portugal.
As a result, Doyle hasn’t endured the same intensity levels in training like the rest of the squad and he hasn’t kicked a ball yet for United.
Paul Heckingbottom spoke to Yorkshire Live about the situation regarding Tommy Doyle:
“He was back on the grass on Saturday and started doing some running and it’s about how he reacts now, so that’s pleasing.
“It’s a thigh injury, but it’s his non-kicking leg, so I am not too concerned. It’s just a case of getting him back and getting him involved in training.
“The scans showed a muscle tear and we’ll just go through the process now, when he’s ticked all the boxes. His running will get longer then it will get quicker, then it will get explosive, then he’ll be striking balls. Bit by bit, stage by stage.
“He’s frustrated, we’re frustrated for him because when we are speaking about the volume of work that the players have had, that’s something he has missed out on.”
The Blades have a lot of games in the opening month of the season, individually this could help the process of Tommy Doyle’s recovery to full match fitness.
