Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell could be in line to bring in a central defender in time for the Championship fixture with Reading this coming Tuesday.

Jonathan Fortune began the game alongside Chris Morgan on Saturday after recently signing an extension to his previous deal.

However, the former Charlton man had not played since the fixture against Barnsley, and was thrown in at the deep end for the FA Cup tie when Marcel Seip pulled out before the kick-off.

Seip had been named in the starting line-up to begin alongside Morgam, but after tearing a hamstring was deemed unfit to begin the game, and could miss up to a month.

Therefore, with Kilgallon’s departure late last week, Blackwell could be in the market for another defender, as soon as Monday.

Alex Pearce is a frontrunner, along with Stoke City central defender Andrew Davies who had a prolonged loan spell at Bramall Lane earlier in the season.
