Contrary to Hull City chairman Acun Illicali’s threats that his Tigers side would give United “hell” in their trip to Humberside this afternoon, the Blades came out worthy winners.

Sheffield United retained pole position at the top of the SkyBet Championship table following a comfortable 2-0 victory at the MKM Stadium. It was a special victory for Paul Heckingbottom’s side after failing to win on the road thus far during the 2022-23 campaign and puts the Blades in good stead with the month of September, majority, made up of fixtures away from Bramall Lane.

The Blades host Rotherham United next week, (their only home fixture this month), before going on their travels to Swansea City and Preston North End in a month of the short fixture list.

United had taken the lead after 20 minutes after Rhys Norrington-Davies had fed Oli McBurnie the ball on the left-hand side with the Scot doing the rest. He shrugged off his marker to cut inside and via a slight deflection rifled the ball home at the near post past Matt Ingram from outside of the area. The Blades grabbed their second of the afternoon on 75 minutes when Sander Berge surged into the box and his effort looped over the keeper and into the net.

The visitors did have keeper Wes Foderingham to thank with the score at 1-0 in the second half. United had been robbed of possession following a corner, Oscar Estupinan broke away one-on-one with the stopper saving his initial effort before keeping out his rebound effort.

We returned to the Not 606 forum to capture the views of the Hull City supporters;

“No point trying to play football in this league unless you’re a team that’s just come down with premierleague players. We’ll get out muscled and closed down by most teams in this league. It’s already clear as day how to beat us.”

“United we’re far the better team especially in the first half. City really did not get a look in and our midfield were poor and failed to create much. And did not improve until Seri came on (although him losing the ball led to the goal). Oscar was very good especially in the first half and showed some good hold up play but of course he missed a gilt edged chance as did Tufan. Both chances were created by breakaways not creative mid field play. Not that there is anything wrong with that it just emphasized United’s mid field domination. Pelkas showed some good touches when he came on. And I look forward to his full debut. Longman was dire and Figueredo also. Time for Macloughlin? . Coyle had a poor game and failed to create anything of note down the right side. If I remember right Baxters distribution is better than Ingrams if so it may be time for Ingram to have a rest. And see if if we can be more creative from the back starting with the goalie.”

“Harsh to drop Ingram, but is there something about a keeper marshalling his defence that isn’t working at the moment?”

“Seems some Blunts fans think we are at least top 8 on quality and play like Galatasary . Now I’ve calmed down get some other players fit and I think we can out football teams – but we can’t out muscle them.”
