Sheffield United are scheduled to face Middlesbrough on New Year’s Day for the first fixture of 2022 and welcome back former manager Chris Wilder since he left the club last March. However, the fixture is in jeopardy of being postponed, but how?

Blades supporters are looking forward to entertaining the Boro at Bramall Lane tomorrow. Due to postponements to the Queens Park Rangers and Hull City fixtures recently due to Covid-19, United haven’t played a home fixture since 28th November. The S2 club was also disappointed to find their Boxing Day clash at Preston North End also postponed for the same reason. This fixture has now been re-arranged for Tuesday, 18th January 2022.

The Blades are scheduled to face Middlesbrough tomorrow in the Championship, with kick-off at 12:30 PM, however, the match could be in doubt after Keith Downie has postponed on social media that Middlesbrough may be seeking permission to call the match off due to Covid-19.

Middlesbrough has been in action recently, beating Blackpool last Wednesday night at Bloomfield Road.

Should the match be postponed, it would make four out of the last five matches the Blades have seen cancelled on them due to Covid-19 within the opposition camp.

It may well be that this is a social media wind up, however, should this be correct then I believe that the Football Association, Premier League, and the Football League need to look at ways at either keeping the fixtures flowing or putting a pause on the season for four weeks minimum. More games recently have been postponed in proportion to the ones which have been played.
