I spoke earlier about the club splashing out and not going cheap.

Well, this would certainly take that rhetoric to the extreme wouldn’t it? And whilst I’d be excited to see it happen, I’m 99% certain that he will be out of our price range. I’m talking of course about David Brooks.

The Blades academy graduate left the club for AFC Bournemouth in the summer of 2018 in a deal worth around £11.5m, and after their relegation this year, it looks as if Brooks’ abilities were set to allow him to stay in the division, but a £50m price tag seemed too much for the bigger teams in the Premier League.

However, that hasn’t totally stopped Blades boss Chris Wilder from saying how much he would love to see him back in red and white in the future. Speaking to the press yesterday, Wilder spoke about his admiration for the Welshman and if the market was right, he’d like to make it happen:

“Like with Ravel (Morrison) last year, we needed somebody that could do something a bit different. But something a bit different is £40m-£50m and the best part of £70-80k a week. I would love to bring David Brooks back to this football club if he was available.

He’s a match-winner and the likes of those, you have just seen what Jack Grealish is signing for and what he is worth.”

Will David Brooks play for us again?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Would I also like to see Brooks back at Bramall Lane? Of course I would, his talent speaks for itself. And judging by previous posts on this site, I think it’s fair to say that a large portion of Sheffield United fans would want it to happen as well.

However, I think we should put off any talk of a return, especially for this price off for just a little while. Wait until we’ve established ourselves as a Premier League club and taken in a lot more of the many millions that it entails, and then try and go after him. Who knows, maybe he’ll be a lot cheaper by then and easier to get old of?

What about you? Would you want to see Brooks back? And would you be willing to pay £50m for the privilege?
