Paul Heckingbottom is hoping to see an improvement from Sheffield United’s defeat against Rotherham, and he is keen to sign off on a high in South Wales.

Speaking ahead of United’s final game before the world cup break, Heckingbottom clarified that it is vitally important that the Blades enter the world cup break on a high.

He told SUTV:

“We want to win this game. We win this game and look where we are in the league, look at what [injuries] we’ve had against us.”

Cardiff City has been in recent poor form winning twice and losing five in their last seven matches. The Bluebirds are 18th, but despite being that low in the table they remain 6pts off the final playoff spot. Meanwhile, they are 4pts above the drop zone.

United could look to not risk former Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie after he was seen leaving Bramall Lane in a protective boot in the midweek defeat to Rotherham United.

John Fleck is likely to miss out after suffering a whack right where his leg fracture was in that game on Tuesday evening.

If the Blades win on Saturday they will regain the top spot on goal difference. Not for long though however; Burnley host Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers as 1st meets 2nd on Sunday afternoon, at Turf Moor.
