Sheffield United tasted defeat for the first time this pre-season as they lost 3-2 to Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park. United shipped 3 goals in the first half, and attempted to make a comeback in front of the travelling Blades in the second half but couldn’t complete it.

This is what Paul Heckingbottom said in his reaction to the defeat:

“Performance wasn’t great but we got valuable minutes in. Some good individual moments, I was really pleased with ‘Blaster [Arblaster]. We want to use him and I think everyone can see he’s going to be a good player for Sheffield United.” [Via Sheffield United]

Heckingbottom criticised the team on the first half performance and spoke of the “terrible” goals that United conceded:

“The goals we conceded were terrible. It’s not about that but we still practice how we want to play and I thought the tempo was really slow. The heat, the sticky pitch, I get that but we’ve still got to try and attack the game.” [Via Sheffield United]

The Sheffield United manager in his post match reaction talked about what his team can take away from Saturdays 3-2 loss:

“There’s things in that game which will be really important for us to go through [with the players] next week. Little reminders, and it’s no bad thing to get reminded that you’re not what you think you are sometimes and [shows] how hard football is.” [Via Sheffield United]
