Hard Fought Draw

I got to BDTBL early yesterday, couldn`t believe the weather. I even had to wear my flat-cap to keep my baldy head warm!

I was hoping for a bounce-back win yesterday evening following what happened on Tuesday and with us being on telly. I did think the worst when Birmingham went in front, but to be fair it was more or less their only attempt on target and took a decent shot to score their goal. We seem to be getting hit by one-off shots to be honest. Burton away and Fulham had good opposition strikes. I think Blackman should have done better to stop their opener though. He got fingers to it but didn`t manage to keep it out.

Clarke got our equaliser halfway through the second half and gave us a glimmer of coming away with all three points. We had decent pressure on Birmingham throughout the game and you could tell that as they were defending in large numbers. They were more or less playing eleven at the back in their formation which hampered our attacks on looking for routes through.

I`m not sure why Lundstram started again. I think he might have made way for Brooks to make a start as he`s been making the difference every time he`s come on as sub, and I know some won`t agree with me, I don`t think Lundstram is a good replacement for Coutts. After Tuesday`s freak defeat I was surprised that it was the same starting eleven to be fair. I thought Blackman would have been replaced by Moore and a rethink on our defensive set up.

There were a few questionable decisions by the referee as well. I thought he was pretty fair until later on. For instance, we had a break and he stopped play for a Brum injury, which he should have let the game play on as it was clear it wasn`t a head injury, and their player received treatment for cramp before being subbed. This stopped our counter and added to a couple of decisions I think the ref could have done better with.

Not to worry though, a draw is fair enough. We`re newbies to this division this season and we can`t win everything. That`s my last game until I get to return from sea, bit disappointed to be going back very early and missing so much of the festive period of footy, but hopefully I may be back for the last couple of games of the season. Milwall and Bristol City are our next two games, we should get the points against both of these. At least next weekend I`ll get to watch my lad`s team, Chesterfield Junior Blues U16s take on Glapwell at home, so at least I`ll be able to freeze watching that!

UTB!!
