Young goalkeeper Jake Eastwood has this evening signed a new long term deal with Sheffield United.

The 21 year old stopper has come through our Academy ranks and the new deal sees him tied down at Bramall Lane until the summer of 2020.

Manager Chris Wilder told the Official Site about the deal.

‘We have a number of very good goalkeepers on our books and Jake is one of them. He works tremendously hard with (coach) Darren Ward and the goalkeepers and has had a taste of senior action in the cup. We see plenty of potential in Jake and hopefully he fulfils it.’

Eastwood was impressive during the pre season campaign and he has taken his place between the sticks in League Cup ties against Walsall and Leicester City so far this season, as well as taking the bench position in a number of games this season, most recently victory over Hull City last weekend.

Speaking himself about the extension he explained.

‘I’m delighted to sign a new contract, it’s a proud day for my family and myself. United is a great club for a young goalkeeper, the coaching is excellent, especially working with Darren Ward, who has contributed massively in my development since I was 14. Working with Simon Moore and Jamal Blackman and a squad of players who are pushing each other every day is a great environment to learn your trade.’

Eastwood becomes the second youngster to sign a new deal at the club following on from David Brooks’ recent extension.
