Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder doesn’t just seem to be making progress today with a deal for Brentford centre-half John Egan, we’re also being linked with Ipswich Town striker Martyn Waghorn.

The Daily Mail’s daily transfer ticker this morning linked us with the 28-year-old forward and stated that we had made a firm £5million offer for his services.

The former Rangers player had a good campaign last year with Ipswich, scoring 16 times and providing 11 assists and although the Portman Road outfit are keen to keep him with them, he has been the subject of interest from Middlesbrough and Derby County apparently. We may have stolen a march on them though.

What seems to drive this speculation is that he only has 12-months left on his existing deal at the club, so the obvious angle of ‘cashing in’ comes into play for them, especially with money notoriously tight at the club.

Another angle, as spotted by one fan, in particular, was we have David McGoldrick on trial at this moment in time. Could he have given a glowing review to our gaffer?
