Danny Wilson concedes that Sheffield United don’t always play “the purest football” but knows that the consistency being shown can’t be disputed.

The 1-0 win over Portsmouth on Monday maintained the unbeaten record, remaining the clubs consistency: ‘It means we have been very consistent.

‘We are not always going to play the purist football but we have been able to grind results out which is fantastic, but it’s not where we are now that matters.’

Last season The Blades were free-scoring, the goals were being banged in regularly with few matching their prolific record.

A change in personnel over the summer hasn’t helped, but what The Blades boss has got he’s more than happy with and feels the only way is up: ‘We have not changed our approach in games, but you have to look at your personnel and we have lost a lot of players over the last 18 months and to replace them is very difficult.

‘Maybe we haven’t got the quality we have had in the past but these players are fantastic and they will only get better once they go on.’
