Sheffield United’s Gary Naysmith has rejected the offer of a new contract to join League 1 side Huddersfield Town.

Naysmith, who returned at the end of the season to complete the final two games, was expected a new deal after his original three year contract ran out.

The former Everton man knew of the impending pay cut, and following lengthy talks, decided enough was enough, and decided to head West to the Galpharm Stadium, to bolster Lee Clark’s promotion chasing squad.

Town manager Clark said: ‘Gary is a massive signing – we have worked very hard to get him.

‘He has got real experience at the very highest level, but the big thing for me is that from the very first day I met him you can tell he still has unbelievable desire and ambition.’
