United have registered 4pts from their opening 3 games this season after drawing 2-2 on Sunday with Middlesbrough at the Riverside. At this stage last season the Blades had only registered 1pt and scored zero goals in the process, right now they have scored 4 goals.

The Blades started positively and on the front foot on Sunday, and that tactic paid off with an early goal for the Blades. Paul Heckingbottom said after the game that he doesn’t “want to be on the back foot when we play away”.

“I enjoyed the game”, Hecky said. “I thought it had all sorts in it and I’ve just said to the players that when I enjoy the game it usually means we’ve done well. I don’t want to be on the back foot when we play away. I want to take teams on and we did that.

He added:

“Lots of energy, effort, tackles. Good quality from both sides in patches. But I’m disappointed we’ve drawn the game from the position we’ve got ourselves in but I’m not going to be overly critical of the players. Obviously disappointed with the goals and I’ve said we’ll keep getting better but in terms of identity and mentality it’s how we want to play.” [Sheffield United YouTube]

Paul Heckingbottom gave his view of his sides first half performance:

“First half we didn’t take enough shots from the positions we got in. I felt Boro weren’t a threat, they had 2 attempts. We scored with our first and got in so many good positions and either Andre Marriner stopped us or we gave the ball away.”

He followed up with his second half verdict:

“We started the 2nd half really well on the front foot and when we went in front I thought we’d win it. But you’ve probably got to credit Boro that they didn’t lie down and that’s what made it an entertaining game.” [Sheffield United YouTube]
