Former Sheffield United, Arsenal, and Blackpool keeper Mark Howard yesterday completed his move to National League side Wrexham following his release from League Two outfit Carlisle United.
The keeper joins the Welsh club on a free transfer after being released from Carlisle, where he was the clubs ‘Player of the Season,’ last season. He joins the Reds, who missed out on promotion into the Football League after being defeated by Grimsby Town in the semi-finals.

Now 35 years old, the stopper played 104 times for the Blades in a spell that lasted four years. He initially joined on loan from Blackpool in January 2012 before completing a permanent transfer in the summer. During his time at United he was part of the squad which reached both the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 2014, and the League Cup in 2015, losing to then Premier League clubs Hull City, and Tottenham Hotspur respectively – whilst the Blades remained a League One club. He left United when his contract expired in July 2016.
He had initially begun his career with Arsenal but failed to make any appearances. He also enjoyed a loan spell at Falkirk before signing for Cardiff City in 2006. He also spent time at Swansea City (on-loan), as well as St Mirren, Aberdeen, and Blackpool before joining the S2 club.
After his time with the Blades ended, he moved to Bolton Wanderers where the Trotters finished second in League One, behind the Blades, with Howard as number one. He later returned to Blackpool and also made appearances for Salford City (loan), Scunthorpe United, and Carlisle.
