Finally…

Micky Adams’ search for a win was finally ended in dramatic style at Bramall Lane tonight.

Sheffield born Matt Lowton headed home from Stephen Quinn’s corner after Sam Vokes had equalised moments earlier.

Dele Adebola had given Forest the lead shortly before the break, and Daniel Bogdanovic missed the chance to level the score when his spot-kick was saved by Lee Camp.

The Blades made several changes to the side with Vokes, Bogdanovic, Lowry and Montgomery all returning to the side. Forest’s latest signing Kris Boyd had to settle for a place on the visitors’ bench.

The first half saw little in the way of action and despite beginning the game with a footballing impetus, it soon returned to the norm. The bright point, coming in the shape of Vokes up front who proved a real handful since returning to fitness. Elsewhere on the field, Quinn began well as he did previously.

United pushed without creating anything clear cut whilst Forest were limited in their chances until the breakthrough came. A hopeful ball found Adebola in the box who rolled his defender and manged to poke an effort past Steve Simonsen in the Blades goal.

Lowton had United’s first shot on goal prior to the goal, but Camp held his left footed attempt.

In the second half, the game continued in a similar vein until Bogdanovic waltzed into the box before being brought down following some neat footwork. The Maltese international dusted himself off and side-footed his spot-kick to the goalkeeper’s left where he’s had previous success, but the highly rated Camp was equal to it in front of the Kop.

Richard Cresswell and Nyron Nosworthy were replaced to the delight of the croud, replaced by Mark Yeates and Joe Mattock. Lowton reverted to right back and was immediately involved breaking through to set up Vokes who took a touch wide before slotting through the legs of Camp.

Bramall Lane was in shock, but the volume was about to go up a notch. Quinn had two successive left-wing corners to differing effects. The first was cut out at the front post when Bogdanovic tried to flick-on leading to the intelligence bringing about the winning goal. Before the ball was sent across Bogdanovic ran towards Quinn allowing Lowton a free header at the front post which he powered home in superb style.

Balls were thrown into the Blades box in the final two minutes of normal time, as well as the five additional, and following a deafening chorus of the Greasy Chip Buttie song the referee brought an end to proceedings to give United three vital points.
