Huge injury blow for the Blades ahead of a huge game against Middlesbrough on Wednesday night at Bramall Lane.

Paul Heckingbottom has revealed that club captain Billy Sharp is “a big doubt” for the match against Middlesbrough. Sharp was subbed out for Oli McBurnie in United’s 3-0 win on Saturday, as a precaution. But, the knock that Sharp picked up has turned out to be more serious than they imagined.

The Sheffield United manager told Yorkshire Live that the 37-year-old has a walking boot on in order to “take as much pressure as possible off that ankle”. Heckingbottom stated that the experienced striker’s X-ray has come back clear, however, there is swelling on the ankle.

United have just recently got Oli McBurnie back to match fit after he himself recovered from an ankle injury.

Paul Heckingbottom will have teenager Daniel Jebbison back and available for selection after serving a three-match ban, for a straight red card that he picked up at the Racecourse Ground against Wrexham.

Sharp’s injury is a major blow to the attacking depth at United’s disposal. The veteran forward’s performances have been good as of late, and to lose an experienced player at a crucial period like this is disappointing.
