Blades striker Ched Evans is looking to be fit for Wales’ friendly against Luxembourg this week after picking up a knock in United’s opener on Sunday.

Evans, who reacted quickly in the area to slide home Leon Britton’s clever pass, was seen with an ice pack on his foot when he was later withdrawn, but the Welsh U21 record goalscorer, is hoping to be fit for Wednesday.

‘I picked up an injury which didn’t help, but it was a great point in the circumstances.

‘I’m linking up with the Welsh squad to get the injury assessed by the physios and we’ll see what happens.’

Evans, who struggled to hit top form last season at Bramall Lane, got 2010/11 off to the best possible start, and will have been buoyed by scoring in front of national team boss John Toshack, especially with the likes of Craig Bellamy, Rob Earnshaw and Sam Vokes to compete with for his homeland.

The Blades other internationals in action this week include Mihkel Aksalu (Estonia) and Daniel Bogdanovic (Malta) leaving Kevin Blackwell with a selection headache for Wednesday’s League Cup clash at Hartlepool.
