Sheffield United host Leeds United tomorrow, in the first top-flight Yorkshire Derby, for the Blades, since 1993-94 season, with Blades boss Chris Wilder chasing his one-hundredth victory as United manager. We take a look at the Sheffield United team news prior to this match.

The last time United took part in a Yorkshire Derby at Premier Level was against Leeds on 13 March 1994 at Bramall Lane. On that day the Blades clawed back from two goals down to draw 2-2. Jostein Flo and defender Brian Gayle both netted in the second half, with the leveller coming on 89 minutes. Former Blades duo Gary Speed and Brian Deane had put the Whites into a two-goal lead.

Sheffield United’s season’s start hasn’t been an enjoyable one. They ended the 2019-20 Premier League with three consecutive defeats to Leicester (0-2), Everton (0-1), and Southampton (1-3). They began the 2020-21 campaign with 0-2 defeat at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, followed by a 0-1 defeat Aston Villa last weekend.

In between those defeats, the Blades were also dumped out of the Carabao Cup in the second round. They had drawn 1-1 at Burnley after David McGoldrick netted after four minutes. With no extra-time played the game went straight to penalties. Burnley advanced after winning 5-4 on spot-kicks.

The Blades will be without keeper Simon Moore (wrist), and striker Lys Mousset (ankle) through injury. The pair have yet to feature for the S2 club this season. They will also be without key defender John Egan, who will serve a one-match ban following his red card at Villa Park almost a week ago. On-loan Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu or Jack Robinson is likely to take his place
