Sheffield United scooped a manager and player double award for October.

Danny Wilson and George Long were up for the manager and player of the month in league one and both won their awards, with this announced on Friday morning.

Wilson, talking to Sky Sports, had this to say: ‘It’s been fantastic. We’ve had quite a solid start at the back and a young lad has come into the goal, young George Long, who has been fantastic for us and overall we’ve looked very strong and quite solid in the defensive unit.

‘We are favourites in the bookies’ eyes but we know how tough this league is and we take nothing for granted.’

The Blades boss acknowledges what a team effort these awards are but it’s also nice on a personal note to get recognition too: ‘It is not really a personal thing, it is how well your team is doing and they have done very well. We have put some great results together and to be acknowledged at the end of it is tremendous.

‘It means we are doing something right, which is nice. The expectation level is so high that it goes unnoticed sometimes so it is nice when the recognition comes from the club’s point of view and a personal one.’

One award would have been great; winning both is great recognition for The Blades.
