Blades young goalkeeper Marcus Dewhurst is currently on trial at National Premier League side Scunthorpe United

The 21 year-old joined up with Scunthorpe last week, and on Saturday he participated in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Middlesbrough’s u23’s where they lost 3-2.

United’s u23 stopper is said to be out of contract this summer, and it is unclear on if the Blades still see Dewhurst as a future first-team player.

Last season the former England u20 international spent the majority of his time at National League North club Boston United. Having started as the number one keeper for 29 games, he kept nine clean sheets, and helped the club finish in 7th spot qualifying for the play-offs.

Dewhurst and his loan club failed to achieve promotion via the play-offs as they lost 2-0 in the final to York City. Although the United u23 goalkeeper didn’t gain promotion last season, he can regard the campaign as a successful one and one where he stepped up in his development.

Having had a full-term at senior level under his belt, this coming season he will look to step up a level in league quality and seal a move to Scunthorpe in the National Premier League.
