Max Lowe is currently on the right side of a remarkable statistic. The left-wingback has not lost a Championship game in which he has started in this season.

It’s hard to believe that the 25-year-old was on the verge of leaving Sheffield United in the summer, when Greek giants Olympiacos came sniffing around for his services.

The Greek club were prompted by Lowe’s excellent performances during his loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season. I’m sure we are all well aware of Nottingham Forest’s owner being the owner of Olympiacos.

Paul Heckingbottom was adamant about his plans for Lowe this summer, back in United’s preseason tour in Portugal. His faith in the athletically gifted left-back has so far been repaid. The Blades have not yet lost a league game when Lowe has been named in the starting eleven.

Lowe has been a breath of fresh air this season. What has made his performances even more spectacular is the fact that he has not had a consistent partnership down the left side, which usually has a negative effect on players performances.

Earlier in the season, he formed a formidable partnership with Rhys Norrington-Davies, but an unfortunate hamstring injury gave Ciaran Clark an opportunity to claim his stake for the starting spot. Then Clark had a couple of niggling injuries which saw Jack Robinson regain his starting spot on the left side of a back three.

Lowe’s athleticism, reading of the game and his delivery into the box has been superb for the majority of the season. There isn’t a weakness as such in his game, up to this point.
