Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough says Ben Davies could stay with the club at the end of his loan spell at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old, who arrived from Derby County on loan for the remainder of the season in the week, is out of contract in the summer at Pride Park and Clough says they will see how the loan spell goes before making a long-term decision.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, Clough said,“He brings versatility and good quality to the side and it is great to have him on board. He has worked extremely hard to get to the level that he has.

“If he impresses us, we will see. He will be on a free in the summer so we would not have to talk to Derby.

“It will depend on what we have available to us financially in the summer and he is someone we have wanting to bring in for the past few months.”

The experienced attacking midfielder has made almost 500 senior appearances since making his debut for Kidderminster Harriers in 2000.

He has also had spells with Chester City, Shrewsbury Town and Notts County before Clough signed him during his time as manager of Derby County in 2011.

He was a regular for Derby under Clough making 82 appearances in his two-and-a-half seasons at Pride Park but he made just one appearance for the rams following the departure of Clough.

Davies made his debut as a late substitute in the win at Gillingham in midweek and he could make his first start against Bristol City on Saturday.
