Sheffield United striker Richard Cresswell is hoping for some late Christmas cheer in today’s encounter against Preston North End after the Boxing Day loss against Leicester City.

Cresswell, who makes his loan move permanent in January has featured heavily since overcoming his rib injury, due to Darius Henderson’s absence, and is expected to partner Ched Evans in attack again today. However, he started the game Saturday as the loan striker, and felt the Blades could have got more out of the game.

‘We were disappointed with the result, in the first half we didn’t really get at it and we conceded from two set-pieces. If you look at the positives, we did well in the second half, got an early goal and could have nicked another one.

‘It was hard work but that’s what you expect away from home and we had chances. It wasn’t the result we were looking for, we have got an opportunity to put it right on Monday.’

(On today’s game)‘Preston are a good team but hopefully we will do the right recovery and be ready for them. They are a good team but we have to concentrate on our performance, particularly as we are on our own patch at Bramall Lane.’
