Sheffield United are rumoured to be lining up a bid for Plymouth Argyle striker Jamie Mackie.

Mackie, 25, has hit 8 goals for relegated Argyle this season, but has grabbed the interest of a number of clubs including Gordon Strachan’s Middlesborough.

The former Exeter City striker has previously had a spell with MK Dons, but it’s his time at Argyle which has supposedly led to him catching the eye of Kevin Blackwell.

With Billy Sharp returning to Bramall lane next season, alongside Ched Evans, Darius Henderson and Richard Cresswell, it’s unknown how significant the capture of another striker will be.

However, Henri Camara’s current deal expires in the Summer, and Sharp himself could be subject of great interest around the Championshio following his goal scoring exploits this year, which would open the door to potential arrivals.

Liverpool academy graduate James Ellison has featured up front for the reserves in recent weeks, but it’s doubtful the Blades will pursue an interest.

  • Hmmm interesting. Mackie does have a habit of scoring a good goal but I have seen a lot of him drifting in and out of games and gesticulating at the officials quite a bit.

  • DrWatford, We are well used to players who gesticulate, we have the king of them here at Bramall Lane. If the was a stat for arm waving, gesticulating and abusing refs & linos, Steven Quinn would top the table!

  • Harper is a novice by Quinnys standards, Quinny also has a nice line in Lino abuse that Harps can only dream about!

  • Who is this guy? Ambition, Seip has been awful since he arrived, why did we sign him on loan, if plymouth can loan him out and get relegated, how bad do they think he is? PLus read somewhere we have the 4th highest wage bill in the division………we only have 8/9 players signed to the club

  • naysmith = £20k, morgs kenny hendo evans =£10-15k, monts quinn cresswell camara £5k-10k…plus god knows how much we’ve paid out on loans in terms of fees / wages / agents…plus we’ll have been paying some of sharps £10k + wages for donny…

  • So whats the solution as we would like to keep 90% of those players? Another season of Balckwell whinging about loans, the board have to get it sorted

  • Id be surprised if we kept hold of hendo, monty, naysmith (unless he comes down massively in price), camara or sharp and also quinn if he gets offered a longer deal than his 12 months elsewhere…we need to remember that the only player contracted after the 2010/11 season is evans….We might want to keep them but the club clearly dont really, hence offering monty 2 years instead of 3, morgs and quinn 12 months extensions and no new deal for hendo…the board do need to sort it, we are in for a massive transitional season with at least 10-15 players coming in and hopefully a few contracts being renewed…It doesnt take much to realise we are not far off from starting from scratch next season…make no mistake if morgs, quinn, hendo get offered 2 years + (in the interests of quinn hendo) they’ll be gone this summer – theyre pro’s and need to protect themselves – this summer is going to be extremely interesting

  • you are well off with you wages there gleadless, no way is morgan on 10 – 15k a week…the highest paid player is naysmith on 12 a week, the rest like hendo, kenny, quinn, monty, evans, are on between 8 – 10k a week and thats a fact. naughton was on 2k a week and that was with increased performance bonuses. our wage bill is average in the championship…just the board making excuses again for not spending.

  • nonesense bfl…trust me on this – i didnt let you down on tonges wages did i? Morgs signed on a free in 2003, has been here for at least two / three contracts – of course hes on more than that! and naysmith is on more than 12!! naughton wasnt on £2k, try halving it…trust me on wages lad, a pal who’s out of contract at the lane lets me know – youd be amazed at what players are on

  • so why did we get rid of players on decent contracts for 1/2k a week just to cash in, get rid of the dead wood and bring through the youngsters which is what we should have done this season and not the loanees….. its not like bartley had played for Arsenal first team, so are we just blooding other teams youngsters
