Manager Nigel Clough has said he’s looking for a fast start from Sheffield United when we face Port Vale tomorrow.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game, Clough said he felt it was vitally important that we started on the front foot and put them under pressure, dictating the game, from the get go to ensure we got the first result of three coming up on home soil, as he bids to get us back to winning ways.

‘On the back of two defeats it is difficult to predict whether Port Vale will come and be defensive minded or come and have a go. What we do know is the like of Rob Page and Michael Brown know this place inside out.’

Clough goes on to say that rather than worrying too much about how they will respond, it’s important that we focus on our own response following back to back draws against Walsall and Scunthorpe as this is a big week for us, with three home games on the trot, and going into April with another nine points would be a huge boost.

‘But we have to focus on what we are going to do, we told the players on Friday morning we need to be positive, put them on the back foot from the first minute and an early goal would obviously settle everyone down. As we keep saying, especially at home, we can’t afford to give them a foothold in the game or worse still fall behind. We have to get the crowd behind us and look to push on, we have three home games on the bounce, a chance to put some points on the board, but from our point of view it is very much one game at a time.’

Clough says what we can’t do though is look to the next two home games just yet, as it really is a case of having to make sure we take each 90 minutes as they come and ensure we get the maximum from them.
