Manager Nigel Clough has talked about his defensive options ahead of this weekend’s game away at Glanford Park to Scunthorpe United.

With Chris Basham suspended for the next two games, Scunthorpe and Walsall, Clough explained that he was confident we had enough strength in depth to not overly miss our impressive former Blackpool man.

‘It is a blow to lose Chris and given his enforced absence the timing of the injury to Terry Kennedy is even more unfortunate, but we’ll cope. We have John Brayford who could play alongside Jay McEveley at centre-back, whilst Craig Alcock, Kieron Freeman and Ben Davies provide cover at right-back, although Craig played in the centre for Peterborough at times last season.’

Clough says that with the timing of Basham’s suspension for ten yellow cards, he’s confident we can fill the gap, but it’s also a positive that the Scunthorpe and Walsall games come in quick succession really because Basham can get the suspension out the way and be back in contention without a great gap of non playing time kicking in.

‘So we do have things to consider but at least we have options and people who can play different roles within those positions, thankfully Chris’s two games will be out of the way in a short space of time, then we will welcome his back for three home matches on the spin at the end of the month and hopefully by then Terry will be close to a return too.’
