If anything will come of it as yet isn’t known but Derby defender Shaun Barker, who Nigel Clough signed from Blackpool when Derby manager, is currently on trial with us.

The 32-year-old, who is looking to work his way back to full fitness after three-years of injury hell having sustained a serious knee injury, played for 45-minutes of our U21 defeat to another of Clough’s former clubs (as a player) Nottingham Forest on Monday.

Clough knows Barker very well so it’s not surprisingly in the least that he’s willing to give him a helping hand as he bids to return from such a long injury layoff but it wouldn’t seem that likely we’ll bring him in this season as you can’t think he would be match fit for the first-team would he?

Maybe we’re looking at him now more with the summer, when his Derby contract expires, in mind…. Then again perhaps it’s nothing more than him looking to help him regain fitness, but you would have thought he would do this with his parent club!
