Manager Nigel Clough has declared himself a happy man following our 4-2 victory over Dundee.

It’s been a slow start to our pre season campaign, with Clough going to lengths to say he’s not concerned about results, but our first victory of this period will certainly have boosted confidence and maybe vindicated the gaffer’s thoughts that things were slowly starting to click even though results hadn’t been going for us.

It was a deserved win over Dundee and Sheffield United were made to work for it, with goals coming from Jamie Murphy, Chris Basham, Jose Baxter and Marc McNulty, and speaking to the Official Site following the game, Clough explained.

‘We are progressing nicely, we are looking stronger and fitter with each game and our play is improving. The substitutions were all planned and timed for between 60-80 minutes, we will look at getting more lads 90 minutes in the games against Huddersfield and Fenerbahce, but the pleasing thing was we came through unscathed.’

Clough goes on to say that he was pleased also to get the newbies on the pitch so they could get used the stadium and Bramall Lane, but tellingly he also comments that he felt we played with a good pattern in the game and it’s a shape he’s now looking for us to build on in the coming weeks more.
