The importance of keeping Sander Berge and Iliman Ndiaye in this window cannot be summed up using words. Thankfully, Prince Abdullah, the Sheffield United owner firmly rejected all bids for the pair.

United were in a tough position due to a transfer embargo looming largely over the club’s head, and it appeared as though the Blades were preparing to sell Sander Berge.

According to the Scandinavian media outlet tv2, Berge’s agent, Morten Wivestad, was in London for the past week to negotiate a potential deal with multiple Premier League clubs.

The report states that Fulham offered the Norwegian midfielder a four and a half year contract before deadline day, however, the club “did not reach an agreement on either the transfer fee or personal terms”.

Berge can now focus on getting Sheffield United promoted back to the Premier League again, after joining in with the first team training session yesterday afternoon.

In the January transfer window in 2020, the Blades signed the Norwegian international for a club-record fee of £22M from Genk, and Berge signed a four and a half year deal.

United were an attractive move for Berge at the time; they were jostling for a place in Europe, but they would drop off in form and finish 9th-place. Inevitably, United suffered relegation to the Championship the following season.

Berge’s current contract is due to expire next summer. He may choose to extend his contract in the summer if the Blades achieve promotion to the Premier League.
